Checking In and Sharing Some WestWords News

Hello fellow Children’s Writers and Friends,

I don’t have a great deal to say today, it’s like that on the journey sometimes. Just more of the same. However, I did think I’d check in and say how thrilled I am and how much I’m looking forward to an initiative by the wonderful team at WestWords Parramatta who are hosting a second, more in depth look at Writing Picture Books. I attended last year’s three week one with amazing illustrator and book designer Wayne Harris and can’t wait for this new course which starts here next Wednesday. It’s a five week course with Alison Giles and the final week includes a visit from a Children’s Book publisher. It’s a free course in Parramatta, which actually makes it truly accessible to Western Sydney Children’s Writers and I cannot applaud them enough for making this opportunity possible. While I’m raving about WestWords Parramatta they are also offering a residency at Pinerolo for a children’s book illustrator and an after school program for young Western Sydney writers, which are also just a fantastic initiatives and may appeal to some of you who are either illustrators or parents. Maybe you’re even both of these and have just hit the trifecta!

Short and sweet from me today dear fellow travellers,

Enjoy the quest,

Journeygirl.

About Artelle Lenthall

Hi Fellow Children’s Writers and Friends, I am a published Picture Book author as well as a wife, mother and Primary School teacher. I am loving the new 'sites' on the continuing road to publication. I belong to the Fellowship of Australian Writers(FAW) Creative Kids Tales(CKT) Jen Storer’s The Scribblers and although I'd love to belong to more writing related organisations, I have found friends, support, critiquing and general encouragement with these, for which I am truly grateful. I also subscribe to Tara Lazar's specialist Picture Book website; How to Write For Kids While Raising Them, Buzz Words and The Duck Pond where I am one of the moderators. These inspire me in the development of my craft. Worth a look if like me, Picture Books and Children’s Writing are your passion.
